Most organizations rely on security assessments and penetration testing from a trusted third party with “security experts” or “ethical hackers” on staff. The intention is to have an experienced and objective third-party evaluate your security posture and provide value through identifying material security flaws, exploiting them and providing recommendations for both remediation and improvement. The harsh reality is that in many cases, trusted third-parties are falling short, leaving their customers short-changed and vulnerable. We’ll explore the reasons this occurs, how to prevent this in your organization and even expose some of the things that most firms won’t tell you.
