Dear Members,
Each day I reflect on the things in this life for which I am grateful. Today I am thankful for each and every one of you, THE Women in Security-Kansas City! Every aspect of our mission, vision, and core value, “We rise by helping others”, reflects the inspiration of this group.
Our journey began more than 2 years ago. We realized that Kansas City didn’t have much to offer for women in the security profession to collaborate. Most security venues are predominantly focused on security technologies and skills, but many lack a place for women to connect and support each other. Often, women in the security industry face challenges such as finding the right company, being the only woman at the table, confidence, and career growth. We believe that WIS-KC is a place where women from students to senior executives can share their experiences, contribute, and guide each other.
I challenge each of you to inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more. Embrace your strengths and personal style—they are your path to greatness. Strategically grow your skillset. Focus just as much on communication skills as you do on technical skills. Protect your time, energy, and talent. Stay open and look for opportunities to collaborate. Seek help from your friends and mentors. Take risks and never stop reinventing yourself!
It has been a great honor and privilege to serve as the first President of Women in Security-Kansas City.
